Mega da Virada Launches Betting with Record Prize of R$ 600 Million
The draw will take place on December 31, marking the highest prize ever projected for Mega da Virada
The lottery House
Mega-Sena da Virada officially opened for bets this Monday, November 11, with an estimated prize of R$ 600 million, the largest in the lottery’s history. The special draw, scheduled for December 31, does not accumulate, following Caixa's special lottery rules: if no one hits all 6 numbers, the prize will be split among those who match the 2nd tier (5 numbers) and so on. It is expected that, with all prize tiers included, the total amount could exceed R$ 1 billion. Last year, Mega da Virada awarded R$ 588 million.
For those dreaming of the prize, the numbers are impressive: a single winner who invests the entire amount in a savings account could receive around R$ 3.4 million in earnings within the first month. With this fortune, it would be possible to buy 1,430 sports cars or afford over two years in the world’s most expensive hotel, with nightly rates of R$ 750,000.
To participate, bets must be made by 7 p.m. (Brasília time) on the day of the draw at authorized lottery outlets or on Caixa’s official website. With 60 numbers available, bets can include between 6 and 20 numbers. A 6-number bet costs R$ 5.00; the more numbers marked, the higher the bet cost and the better the odds of winning.
What is the probability of winning the Mega-Sena jackpot?
The chance of hitting the jackpot with a simple 6-number bet is 1 in 50,063,860. However, Mega-Sena allows up to 20 numbers to be selected in a single bet, costing R$ 193,800, raising the odds to 1 in 1,292.
To redeem winnings, players have the option to go to an authorized lottery retailer or a Caixa agency. Gross amounts over R$ 2,259.20 can only be collected at a bank, with a valid ID, CPF, and proof of the winning bet.
