An employee of a company in Baixa Grande do Ribeiro (PI) confessed to embezzling R$ 500,000 from his workplace to bet on the 'Tigrinho Game.' He went to the police station last Friday (11/01) and, according to the Civil Police, is under investigation for qualified theft and criminal association. On a single day, the man reportedly deposited R$ 140,000 on the betting platform and even took out loans to fuel his gambling addiction. Detective Marcos Halan highlighted that this case stands out due to the high amount embezzled.

According to the testimony, the 26-year-old employee hoped to profit from the bets but ended up losing everything. He had been working at the company for four years, and there are discrepancies regarding the total amount embezzled, with the employer claiming that losses reach up to R$ 600,000. The company has requested an audit to clarify the exact amount.

The detective stated that the employee was not arrested because he voluntarily presented himself with his lawyer and is cooperating with the investigations. He will face charges of qualified theft and criminal association, as there are suspicions that other individuals were involved in the embezzlement scheme.

The accused's family is selling a property to help repay the debt. So far, around R$ 200,000 has been returned. "Now, the case will be forwarded to the Judiciary for appropriate measures," stated Detective Halan.
