Online betting offers a new perspective on luck: an opportunity for entertainment and, for some, an investment. Data reveals that 40% of players are drawn to the promise of making a lot of money quickly and with little effort, while only 14% see them as investments. However, while bets are widely recognized as a form of entertainment, investing in stocks is considered more bureaucratic, so much so that only 2% of the population invested in stocks, while 14% placed online bets and/or played at virtual casinos.
The scenario of online betting reveals impressive growth, with a 360% increase in the number of companies in the sector in Brazil between 2020 and 2022. Last year, these companies accumulated revenue of over R$ 50 billion, surpassing the country's revenue from beef exports by R$ 4 billion. Men, people from higher social classes, and young people from Generation Z are the main users of online betting in Brazil. Interestingly, about 17% of Bolsa Família beneficiaries also allocate part of their resources to betting.
The government is keeping an eye on this trend: the regulation of online betting is one of the government's priorities, which expects to raise R$ 3 billion per year with this measure. This initiative aims not only to ensure a more solid structure for the sector but also to generate significant revenue for the country.
