The lottery researcher, Guilhermino Ferreira, from Pernambuco, asserts that he has amassed R$ 150,000 in prizes from Mega-Sena, Quina, and Lotofácil, having won more than 70 times since he began studying strategies to increase his chances of winning. Fascinated by mathematics, the accounting technician used to choose random numbers, but, realizing he wasn't successful, dedicated himself to understanding how to improve his odds.
Currently, Ferreira works as a researcher, has published a book, and manages a website about lotteries. He offers consulting services to gamblers in various countries, such as Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Australia, Belgium, Portugal, and Japan. The expert believes that mathematics can positively influence bets, emphasizing that 45% is an investment, 45% is strategy, and 10% is luck.
His winnings total approximately R$ 150,000, coming from Mega-Sena quinas, Mega-Sena da Virada quadras, and 14-point hits in Lotofácil. The researcher shares his strategies in the book "The Lottery Manual," focusing primarily on Mega-Sena, including the selection of high and low-frequency numbers, avoiding consecutive numbers, and applying closure and unfolding to increase the chances of winning.
According to Ferreira, the concepts of closure and unfolding are used when the gambler bets with more than six numbers – he recommends a minimum of ten – spending the least amount possible and increasing the chances of winning. "Closure in lotteries is a grouping of a certain number of numbers that guarantees a minimum prize if certain conditions are met," he said. According to the expert, it is possible, for example, to play ten numbers in Mega-Sena and guarantee at least a quadra by hitting five of these numbers. The calculations are made using spreadsheets developed from probability theories.
Finally, it's worth emphasizing that there is no guarantee of winning the lotteries. The probability of hitting the six numbers with a single play in Mega-Sena is 1 in 50,063,860. However, Mega allows the selection of up to 20 numbers, with the cost of this bet being R$ 193,800.00, but the chances of winning increase to one in 1,292.
