The Mega da Virada, the biggest lottery draw in Brazil, already offers a record prize of R$ 600 million in 2024. But according to Lucíola Aor Vasconcelos, CEO of Caixa Loterias, it won’t be long before the prize reaches the billion mark. “We don’t have a defined projection, but with the growth we’ve observed in recent years, I believe it won’t take long for us to have a billion-dollar prize,” the executive stated, without setting a deadline.
The Mega da Virada, which takes place on December 31, is a phenomenon among Brazilians, becoming a year-end tradition. Vasconcelos highlights that the record-breaking prize is driven by effective marketing campaigns and the immense popularity of the draw. “The expectation of reaching R$ 600 million was already high. The final days of ticket sales are critical in determining the prize value, as a significant portion of the revenue is allocated to the prize pool,” she explained.
Beyond the prize itself, the Mega da Virada draw also has significant social impact: around 50% of the total revenue is allocated to areas like health, education, sports, and other sectors.
With the record prize, future millionaires can already dream of financial stability. “From savings accounts to other conservative investments, it’s possible to secure a lifetime income for the winner,” concluded Vasconcelos.
