Antônio Lopes da Siqueira, 73, who won over R$ 201 million alone in the Mega-Sena drawing held in November, passed away this Wednesday (12/04). He reportedly suffered a possible sudden illness while undergoing dental treatment in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso. The Civil Police are investigating the case.
According to delegate Edison Pick, authorities are collecting information from the dental clinic to determine what happened. “If it was a sudden illness, there is no fault of the clinic. Now we await the autopsy results to confirm the cause of death,” said Pick.
Antônio, known in the region as a cattle rancher trading livestock on Mato Grosso farms, leaves behind four children. He had collected his prize of R$ 201,963,763.26 on November 11, two days after being announced as the winner of contest 2795.
Antônio correctly picked the numbers 13 – 16 – 33 – 43 – 46 – 55 with a simple R$ 5 bet placed at a lottery outlet in Cuiabá. According to the owner, Dalia Chahine, the multimillion-dollar win significantly increased traffic at the outlet, which had never recorded such a high prize in its five years of operation.
The odds of winning with a simple bet are 1 in 50,063,860. Despite this, Antônio claimed one of the 10 largest prizes in Mega-Sena history, considering only regular contests.
The tragic death of the winner draws attention to the short period between his major victory and the unexpected outcome, leaving a legacy of luck and mystery in the history of Mega-Sena.
