A Mega-Sena winner from Pernambuco is facing a legal battle with her ex-husband, who is demanding half of her massive prize. In 2020, the woman won R$ 103 million in the Mega-Sena’s 2306th draw. At the time, she owned a snack stand and was engaged to a van driver. The case was disclosed by the Metrópoles portal.
The story began in April 2020 when the two started dating. By August, they were engaged, and two months later, on October 7, the woman hit the jackpot. Just 20 days after the draw, the couple got married.
However, the marriage lasted only nine months, ending in a divorce with a total separation of assets. Despite this, the woman gave R$ 10 million to her ex-husband and R$ 1 million to each of his children. Unsatisfied, the man filed a lawsuit claiming they had a common-law marriage before the wedding and that he is entitled to half of the prize.
The winner denies the common-law marriage and says her ex-husband was "rude." She also stated that their relationship was not intimate before the wedding due to her religious beliefs. On the other hand, the ex-husband's defense accuses her of acting in bad faith, alleging that she transferred the assets to her name before requesting the divorce.
While the case is ongoing, the court has frozen half of the woman’s assets, but only R$ 22.5 million has been located. The legal dispute continues as the ex-husband seeks to prove the common-law marriage to claim part of the fortune.
