Finance Minister Fernando Haddad stated this Monday (09/30) that between 500 and 600 online betting sites will be banned from Brazil in the coming days for operating without proper regulation. According to Haddad, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) will be responsible for blocking access to these sites in Brazilian territory.

During an interview with CBN radio, Haddad advised people who have money deposited on these sites to immediately request a refund before the ban. 'If you have money in betting sites, request a refund now. You have the right to be refunded, ask for the money you have deposited there,' the minister advised.

In addition to blocking unregulated sites, Haddad highlighted other ongoing measures to control the betting sector in the country. Among the actions, he mentioned the prohibition of using credit cards and the Bolsa Família card on betting sites. The government is also working to impose greater control over the sector's advertising, which, in the minister's view, is 'completely out of control.'

Haddad also informed that he will meet with representatives of advertising regulatory entities to discuss online betting propaganda in Brazil. He advocated for stricter treatment, similar to the existing control over cigarette and alcohol advertising, to regulate advertisements related to betting.
